Calibration sets a reference for the phone’s sensor reading. Use the calibration available in Bubble Level & Angle Finder on a surface you have independently checked; an unknown surface is not proof of true level.
Step by step
Check physical contact
Remove a case if it creates an uneven edge. Make sure the camera bump, buttons or debris do not tilt the phone.
Use the intended reference
Place the phone in the orientation you will measure with and follow the app’s calibration control. Keep the phone still.
Repeat the reading
Lift and replace the device, then compare readings. If they disagree, check the contact and reference before measuring the object.
A practical example
Before aligning a shelf, check the phone on a known level reference and repeat the placement. Confirm the shelf itself with a suitable dedicated level when required.
Before you use the result
Calibration does not create certified accuracy. Phone sensors, contact geometry and the reference surface limit the result. Do not use a casual phone reading for a safety-critical decision.
